My potty training journey.

One afternoon, while searching my local library's app for a new book to devour, I came across Oh Crap! Potty Training and thought, "meh, why not see what this is about," and it became quickly apparent that this is something that I needed to take seriously and fast! I even reached out to my cousin, who has a daughter one month older than my sons, and recommended that she read the book ASAP. She quickly hopped on board, too.
That week, I kept the boys home from daycare and dedicated the entire week to potty training both mornings and nights. I figured if I was getting rid of diapers, I was jumping in with both feet.
On day one, I quickly discovered that with twins, if someone else is doing it with you, you both need to thoroughly understand what is going on. It was a disaster and then some! And I had three extra humans helping me. To say the least, I couldn't wait for bedtime and a glass (or two) of wine!
Day two came with nightmares I didn't even consider. My boys had learned they could put their penises into their toys and other objects and pee in them. Looking back, I wish I had listened to the book's advice about using a red Solo cup; I'm sure that would have made that nightmare situation easier to handle. By the end of the day, I started seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, and the boys began to use the potty instead of random objects around the house.
On day three, we started our morning without bottoms, but after lunchtime, we switched to wearing pants with no underwear. Every kid is different, even twins. One got it right away and could take off his own pants, while the other struggled to get his pants off in time. They had to be completely off for him to sit on the potty. The rest of the week, we kept on pants and started on adventures to the park and Grandma’s house with great success!
I was fortunate that daycare was 100% on board with potty training, and after some tweaks with prompting them, they would come home accident-free almost weekly.
My boys are now three years old, and we’ve had some regressions when we changed day cares and then when their best friend left their new daycare. Besides those times, they have been primarily accident-free. I actually rarely bring extra clothes for them when we go out!
Ever since potty training my twins, I started to notice how much of a hot topic it was. I found myself suggesting tips from the book or even recommending that they read it themselves for further help, to many other parents who couldn’t believe my kids were already potty trained. My journey with potty training has taught me how wild it can be, and when you’re in the midst of it, you can lose your mind in ways you didn’t know possible! I started my business because I have a passion for helping moms through the tough times of parenting. After all, that’s when we need a cheerleader and a guiding hand the most. As parents, we know how difficult each stage of life can be, especially when it’s your first child. I’m here to lighten the load for parents and provide step-by-step guidance as they begin the process of potty training.
