Having some poop troubles? Try some play dough!

I’m sorry to say this will be not only weird but kind of gross as well but it works like a charm! When it comes to pooping one of the struggles kids have is they can’t see what’s going on down there so they’re not really sure about it, they know they have this feeling and something seems to be opening up down there and it tends to freak them out especially since it’s no longer in a diaper but now dropping away from their body and going into the toilet.
This trick helps them put a visualization to what they’re feeling and it’s like a light bulb goes off and they start to understand that they need to go to the bathroom when this feeling occurs. This trick is super for kids who are trying to get to the potty but just can’t seem to quite make it. It’s also awesome for the little ones who keep hopping on and off, dancing around for ages, and still look a bit unsure about pooping.
The only things you need for this is some playdough – it doesn’t have to be brown, but better if it is– and your fist.
You’re going to make a fist and the spot where your thumb curls around your index finger is a good representation of the anus. Put the playdough in your fist and squeeze some out. Told you earlier this is going to be gross, but your kid will love it, and it will help! You want to explain to them, "When your poop is here (tucked inside your fist) but wants to come out, you tell me. When your poop is here (squeezing out of the fist), it's already out and it's too late". If you feel comfortable with it, you can also explain what is happening with the anus opening.
This part is usually pretty fun and eye-opening for your child - most kids have a total “aha!” moment. And for you, it’s one more parenting milestone where you think, “Well, I never pictured myself doing this!”
